United make double signing
Miller and Walsh sign for the Honest Men
Ayr United are delighted to announce the signing of Michael Miller and Tom Walsh.
Michael Miller joins the Honest Men after a successful campaign with Raith Rovers which saw the Kirkcaldy side crowned League 1 Champions. The 25 year-old, who made 26 appearances last season and scored five goals, featured mainly at right-back for the Rovers but is comfortable in a number of positions across defence and midfield.
Michael began his career with Celtic and enjoyed a spell on loan as Dumbarton, where he made his senior debut in 2014. A permanent switch to Greenock Morton that summer saw him win his first League 1 winners medal and become a regular at Cappielow in the Championship before making the move to Livingston in 2016 where he earned another title with the Almondvale club.
Complications with a knee injury saw him miss the entirety of the 2017/18 season but he has battled his way back to full fitness, featuring for Brechin City at the end of the 2018/19 season before making the switch to Raith Rovers.
Tom Walsh moves to Somerset Park after turning down a new two-year deal with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, where he has plied his trade for the past two seasons. The left-sided winger/midfielder made 68 appearances for the Highland club, scoring 13 times.
24 year-old Tom, from Troon, started his career with Rangers and made his first team breakthrough with the Ibrox club five years ago in the Championship, earning a number of starts under the temporary charge of Kenny McDowall and then Stuart McCall. Loan spells at Dumbarton and St. Mirren saw him add to his Championship experience before signing for the Sons on a permanent basis in 2017.
After a number of impressive showings for Dumbarton, Inverness quickly moved to offer Walsh a route back into full-time football.
Manager Mark Kerr said: Michael had an injury when he was a youth at Celtic however he has came back from that and won 3 titles in his career. He is a good age for us, is versatile and can play in a few different positions. He is just off the back of winning League one with Raith and he is really hungry to push on with his football career now.
Tom has been one of the best players in the Championship over the last two seasons. He will bring goals and assists and we are looking strong in the forward areas. Tom is only 24 but he brings plenty of experience with him and will help bring on several members of the squad.”
